Getting ready for a special occasion can be nerve-wracking. Add in a little person and the stress barometer starts to climb. If you have a first communion, a wedding or some other special occasion coming up, you’ll want to watch the video and hear about one of my first communion tips on getting ready. Even better, the tip works for any children’s special occasion.
As a mother, you know how difficult it is to keep a child clean right before a special occasion. You want to wait as late as possible before getting them dressed, but also need to ensure that you’re not rushing. Let me assure you, there is a simple way to get your child dressed without worrying about them getting dirty. I don’t really remember how I came up with this tip but it works like a charm.
Have your child get dressed in her finery. Then take a men’s button down shirt and a small hand towel. Drape the hand towel around your child’s neck and have them put on the men’s button down shirt. Roll up the sleeves and voilà, you have a full length smock. The child can have breakfast or play until everyone is ready to go to the event.
I’ve found this little tip to be a lifesaver if you need to style your child’s hair for the special occasion. How many times has a child messed up her hair by pulling a t-shirt over her head? Who wants to spend an hour getting her hair to look perfect only to have all your efforts undone in a minute. The button down shirt ensures that nothing has to go over her head. Style the hair with all the messy hair products that you need and then simply unbutton the shirt. It doesn’t get any easier.
